EFF President Julius Malema has delivered a strong message to the United States, urging Botswana and other African countries to reject military aircraft donated by the US, saying Africa should not rely on foreign powers for its security.
Speaking at the Botswana National Front (BNF) National Conference, Malema said Botswana should not accept military aircraft that he claimed had been used in conflicts involving Palestine or in actions against Cuba. He argued that Africa should build its own defence capabilities rather than depend on military assistance from countries outside the continent
Malema also declared that, in his view, America has never been, and will never be, Botswana’s friend. He called on African nations to strengthen unity, protect their independence and make decisions based on the continent’s own interests instead of relying on powerful foreign governments.
His remarks have sparked widespread debate across social media and political circles. Supporters praised his call for African self-reliance and independence, saying the continent should reduce its dependence on foreign powers. Others disagreed, arguing that international partnerships, including those with the United States, can play an important role in security, development and economic cooperation.
The comments are part of Malema’s long-standing position that African countries should pursue independent foreign policies and work together to solve the continent’s challenges without external influence.
