Kambwili praises UPND for increasing Social Cash Transfer, But Says they didn’t introduce it

FORMER Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili has praised the UPND government for increasing the Social Cash Transfer—SCT, but insists the ruling party should not claim credit for introducing the programme.

Addressing a political rally recently, Kambwili said he acknowledges that the UPND has made some positive contributions, including doubling the Social Cash Transfer from K400 to K800.

“Social Cash Transfer was introduced by an NGO which first rolled it out in Kalomo. When Michael Sata became President, he adopted the programme and expanded it across the country because it was a good initiative to help the vulnerable in our society,” Kambwili said.

He argued that by the time the Patriotic Front—PF left office, beneficiaries were receiving K400 under the programme.

“All these [UPND] have done is increase it to K800, and we praise them for increasing it. We can’t say they have not done anything,” he said.

Kambwili, however, said an administration led by NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile would further increase the Social Cash Transfer if elected into office.

He also alleged that some eligible beneficiaries do not receive the funds consistently, claiming that the programme is selectively administered in favour of UPND supporters.

“When we come into power, to show you that we love you, we will increase it. I also know that that same money does not come all the time. For some of you to be given, they first have to look at your faces. Only UPND members are given,” Kambwili claimed.

The allegations regarding the distribution of the Social Cash Transfer have not been independently verifiedcfc, and the government has consistently maintained that the programme is administered based on eligibility criteria rather than political affiliation.

  1. So???
And you want to claim that you did? Kambwili…you in PF were giving that money selectively. It was not being paid on time. It was never a realistic amount to match what the economy was doing. Those that were entitled to it…did get it.
So who do you want to cheat on the issue? This regime has done so much on the issue than those who want to suggest created it. These are not party policies for that matter. The state knows about them then the regime of the day puts them forth in implimenting them . Yesterday the new PM in Britian did just that on two issues. So please keep quiet….you are not worth voting….zero value added to Zambians. Just interested in your well being
