AFRICAN UNION CHAIRPERSON MAHMOUD ALI YOUSSOUF STRONGLY CONDEMNS ALLEGED XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS IN SOUTH AFRICA, CALLS THE HUMAN COST UNACCEPTABLE AND SAYS THE ISSUE WILL BE TABLED AT THE NEXT AU SUMMIT

African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has strongly condemned the alleged xenophobic attacks reported in South Africa, describing their human impact as deeply concerning.

Speaking during an interview, Youssouf said the African Union cannot ignore the suffering of people affected by the reported violence. He stressed that protecting the rights, dignity and safety of all African citizens remains a priority for the continental body.

Youssouf also confirmed that the matter is expected to be placed on the agenda of the next African Union Summit, where African leaders are expected to discuss the situation and explore possible collective responses.

His remarks come as several African leaders and governments have voiced concern over reports of attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa, while the South African government has maintained that it condemns all forms of violence and is taking action against criminality.

The comments have sparked widespread debate across the continent, with many calling for stronger regional cooperation to address migration, public safety and the protection of all people living in African countries.
