Araghchi says US deal was ‘best possible agreement,’ says public was discouraged by ‘lies’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a teaser released on Friday for the second part of an interview that an agreement with the United States had been “the best possible agreement,” but failed to win national consensus.
“People on the ground were discouraged by lies, and sometimes I think Israel has infiltrated such a process,” Araghchi said in excerpts released ahead of the full interview.
Araghchi also said no decision on reaching an understanding with the United States had been imposed on Mojtaba Khamenei, saying that whenever he insisted on his position, “that path was followed,” and when he accepted changes based on expert advice, “a new path was taken.”
