JULIUS MALEMA SAYS BOTSWANA’S DIAMONDS ARE PAYING FOR FREE EDUCATION, MONTHLY STUDENT ALLOWANCES AND A BETTER FUTURE FOR ITS CITIZENS, ASKING WHY SOUTH AFRICA CANNOT DO MORE WITH ITS OWN NATURAL RESOURCES
EFF leader Julius Malema has praised Botswana’s use of its diamond wealth, saying the country’s natural resources are being used to improve the lives of its people.
Speaking during a recent address, Malema said the Botswana government owns a majority share in the country’s diamond industry. According to him, the money generated from diamonds helps pay for students to study both inside Botswana and overseas.
He also claimed that many students receive monthly allowances while studying, saying the government supports them financially so they can focus on their education without worrying about living costs.
Malema shared a personal story about meeting Botswana students while he was in Washington. He said they told him about the benefits they received from their government, including monthly payments, and argued that this showed how a country’s natural resources could be used to invest directly in its people.
Using Botswana as an example, Malema said countries rich in minerals should ensure that the wealth from those resources benefits ordinary citizens through education, job creation and social development.
