Israeli Finance Minister Says Israel Has No Immediate Interest in Direct War With Iran
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Saturday that Israel does not currently see a direct military confrontation with Iran as being in its strategic interest, suggesting that the present regional dynamic is working in Israel’s favor.
Speaking about the ongoing tensions involving Iran, Smotrich stated:
“I do not believe it is currently in Israel’s interest to enter into a direct war with Iran.”
He added that the current situation—where the United States and Iran are confronting each other—is advantageous for Israel.
“The current situation, in which the United States and Iran are facing each other, is better for us,” Smotrich said.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with Washington and Tehran exchanging sharp rhetoric and military claims while diplomatic efforts continue in parallel. Smotrich’s comments suggest that some Israeli officials believe Israel can better protect its strategic interests without becoming directly involved in a broader military conflict with Iran at this stage.
