BEAUTY KATEBE VOWS TO PURSUE UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY CASE TO CONCLUSION

Non-Governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council -NGOCC- Chairperson Beauty Katebe says despite the silence from authorities over the matter in which she and 11 others were charged with unlawful assembly, she will pursue it to its conclusion to send a strong message that victimization should not be tolerated.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Ms. Katebe has questioned whether the law is being applied fairly, saying that even respected members of society can be affected by such treatment and that ordinary citizens may be even more vulnerable.
She has disclosed that she is seeking legal advice on the way forward and insists the matter be resolved fully to serve as a lesson that victims of unfair treatment can challenge the system and seek justice to the end.
The case is linked to a solidarity action involving then Lusaka Deputy Mayor Ketty Nanyangwe on may 22nd, 2026, at the Lusaka Civic Centre during the filing of nominations for mayoral candidates.
Ms. Katebe expressed concern that there has been no clear progress from the police or the court since the matter began and that she and her colleagues have appeared in court several times without any progress.
