Imagine raising a child in an environment of bullets- Hichilema
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to cherish the peace the country enjoys.
And President Hichilema told the gathering at the Lusaka Conference Youth Sabbath that his voice is horsey as he had been campaigning.
Addressing the Church during the Lusaka Youth Sabbath at the Lusaka Blessing Centre yesterday, the President said peace and security are essential ingredients to development.
“Those who preach can continue preaching because the nation is peaceful. Those who farm like me, can work the fields, in a peaceful environment.
“Without peace, everything is gone. Literally everything is gone. And sometimes we God’s people don’t reflect on the importance and value of peace. We take it for granted,” the Head of State said.
He said he has had the privilege to sit on committees that deliberate on the importance of peace and that he has seen how Eastern DRC has been impacted by prolonged conflict adding that, Zambians should cherish peace.
“Eastern DRC for example, they have never enjoyed peace now running to 38 years. Just think of that. Women cannot take care of family in the ordinary sense, children can’t go to school. We’re talking about education.
“Now just imagine raising a child in an environment of bullets, blood, from pregnancy, to birth, how the mother survives…child is born and is supposed to go to school, and five six seven; they have no opportunity. What do you think they become, when they’re 20, 25? They are fighting, born and bred to fight. We should cherish peace,” President Hichilema implored.
