Houthis Claim to Shoot Down Saudi Armed Drone in Northern Yemen
Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced that the group had shot down a Saudi-operated armed reconnaissance drone over Al Jawf Governorate in northern Yemen.
According to the statement, the aircraft was identified as a Bayraktar TB2, a Turkish-made armed unmanned aerial vehicle widely used for intelligence, surveillance, and strike missions. The Houthis said the drone was conducting operations over northern Yemen before being intercepted.
The group stated that the drone was brought down using a domestically developed air defense system but did not disclose the specific weapon employed. No independent verification of the claim or confirmation from Saudi authorities has been released.
The reported shootdown comes as fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces continues to intensify, with tensions also remaining high around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea.
