Iran Condemns Ukrainian Strike, Warns Response “Cannot Go Unanswered”
Iran has strongly condemned Ukraine over the reported strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Ukraine of attacking what Tehran described as a civilian commercial vessel, calling the incident a violation of international law and the UN Charter. In a statement, Araghchi warned that the attack “cannot go unanswered” and said Iran had raised the issue with both the European Union and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to deliver an official protest, describing the reported strike as an act of aggression against Iranian interests.
Tehran reiterated its longstanding position that it has not provided military support for the war in Ukraine and rejected allegations that the targeted vessel was transporting weapons.
Iranian officials further stated that the country reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its citizens, property, and national security under international law.
