LEVISON MUMBA RESIGNS FROM CITIZENS FIRST TO JOIN UPND
Citizens First National Chairperson Levison Mumba has resigned from the party to join the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
Mr Mumba announced his departure yesterday during a press briefing in Petauke District, where he was received by UPND officials and party members.
A former Msanzala Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister in the MMD government, Mr Mumba said he had taken the decision to leave Citizens First and align himself with the UPND for personal reasons. He did not elaborate further on what had prompted the move.
Speaking to journalists, he appealed to the UPND to welcome him into its ranks, saying he was ready to work with the party to advance the country’s development. He expressed confidence that his experience in public life would allow him to contribute to the government’s agenda.
His resignation adds to a series of political realignments taking place across the country as parties position themselves ahead of the 13 August general election. Such moves have become a familiar feature of the campaign period, with figures from various parties crossing the floor in the run-up to the vote.
Mr Mumba’s decision to leave a senior position in Citizens First to join the governing party is likely to draw attention in Eastern Province, where he has long been a known political figure. His reception by UPND officials in Petauke signalled the party’s willingness to embrace him as it continues to broaden its support base before the election.
