Saudi Arabia Says Air Defenses Foil Drone Attack on Oil Facilities
Saudi Arabia has announced that its air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed several drones that targeted key oil facilities in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province as well as the capital, Riyadh, preventing what officials described as a potentially serious attack on critical energy infrastructure.
According to Saudi authorities, the drones were launched from inside Iraq. Riyadh accused Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq of carrying out the attack, claiming the strike was a deliberate attempt to destabilize the Kingdom and threaten regional security.
The Saudi government stated that its air defense systems responded swiftly, neutralizing the incoming drones before they reached their intended targets. Officials reported that no casualties or significant damage were recorded as a result of the attempted attack.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where attacks involving drones and missiles have become increasingly common. Saudi Arabia has repeatedly accused Iran and its allied armed groups of orchestrating cross-border attacks on its territory, allegations that Tehran has consistently denied.
Saudi officials reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting its strategic infrastructure and warned that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and national security. The latest incident is expected to further intensify concerns over regional stability and the risk of broader escalation.
