HAIMBE: PF/TONSE ALLIANCE HAS “FINALLY TOLD ZAMBIANS THE TRUTH”

UPND National Management Committee member Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC has responded to remarks by opposition figure Makebi Zulu, saying the PF/Tonse Alliance has at last revealed its true offer to voters: a return to the past.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Haimbe pointed to a front-page News Diggers report quoting Zulu as vowing to “take you back to living the way you did under Lungu” should the alliance win. “We thank Honourable Makebi Zulu for his honesty,” Haimbe said. “He calls it a promise. Zambians will hear it as a threat.”

Haimbe argued that Zambians need not imagine what “back” means, because they had lived it. He listed the 2020 debt default, a kwacha in freefall with inflation above 24 percent, the gassing crisis, cadres controlling markets and bus stations, the closure of The Post and Prime TV, and the scrapping of free education, meal allowances and bursaries.

He contrasted this with the current administration’s record, citing free education that has brought more than two million additional learners into classrooms, over 50,000 teachers and health workers recruited, the Constituency Development Fund raised from K1.6 million to more than K30 million, and 1.6 million families supported through the Social Cash Transfer.

Acknowledging that the journey was not finished, and that Zambians had endured the worst drought in a century, Haimbe framed the 13 August vote as a straight choice. “We choose forward. We believe Zambians will too,” he said.
