Gezile circulated the videos on various media platforms, asserts Police
GEZILE Smith Mwale, 23, has been charged and arrested by the Zambia Police Service for allegedly producing and circulating obscene videos on social media.
According to Police spokesman Godfrey Chilabi, Gezile Smith Mwale has been charged with Production of Obscene Matters or Things, contrary to Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Police allege that between July 22 and 27, 2026, Gezile Smith Mwale, acting together with other persons, participated in the production of videos depicting individuals engaged in obscene acts.
It is further alleged that Gezile Smith Mwale circulated the videos on various social media platforms.
The matter was reported to the Zambia Police Service Anti-Cyber Crime Unit on July 27, 2026, prompting investigations conducted jointly with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency.
According to police, preliminary investigations led to the identification and arrest of Gezile Smith Mwale, while other individuals believed to have been involved remain at large. Efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
Gezile Smith Mwale has since been formally charged and remains in police custody pending a court appearance.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service has reminded members of the public that the production, possession, publication, and circulation of obscene material are offences under the laws of Zambia.
