ECZ ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF FOUR ASPIRING CANDIDATES IN CHONGWE
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), through the Office of the District Electoral Officer for Chongwe, has announced that four aspiring candidates have formally withdrawn from the 2026 General Elections.
According to a public notice issued on Tuesday, the candidates are:
Robster Mwanza – Parliamentary candidate for Chongwe East Constituency under the Resolute Party.
Kelly Nyambe – Mulenje Ward councillor candidate under the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Progress (NRPUP).
Brian Mutalange – Lwimba Ward councillor candidate who was contesting as an Independent.
David Daka – Chalimbana Ward councillor candidate under the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ).
ECZ stated that under the Electoral Process Act and other applicable electoral laws, candidates who resign after the close of nominations are no longer eligible to contest the election. However, because ballot papers had already been prepared, their names will still appear on the ballot.
The Commission has advised voters to take note of the resignations when casting their votes on election day.
