GOVERNANCE EXPERT BACKS MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Governance expert Chalwe Kabunda has endorsed Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu as leaders capable of steering Zambia towards economic recovery and sustainable national development, saying the duo possesses the vision and commitment needed to address the country’s pressing challenges.
In a statement, Mr. Kabunda said Zambia was at a critical point in its democratic journey and required leadership focused on restoring economic growth, creating jobs and putting the interests of citizens first.
“As Zambia prepares for a decisive moment in its democratic journey, the country needs leaders who are committed to restoring economic growth, creating opportunities for citizens and putting the interests of Zambians first,” Mr. Kabunda said.
He said Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu had demonstrated the determination and leadership necessary to rebuild the economy through increased investment, employment creation and expanded business opportunities.
Mr. Kabunda noted that many Zambians continued to experience economic hardships, which he attributed in part to prolonged electricity load shedding that disrupted livelihoods, reduced productivity and slowed economic growth.
“The people deserve a government that treats energy security as a national priority and works tirelessly to ensure a reliable electricity supply that supports households, commerce and industry,” he said.
He also called for renewed attention to the agricultural sector, describing it as a key driver of national development. Mr. Kabunda urged authorities to ensure that farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) are distributed on time to enable farmers to prepare adequately for each farming season.
According to Mr. Kabunda, timely delivery of farming inputs would improve agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, increase rural incomes and contribute to national economic recovery.
On governance, Mr. Kabunda expressed concern over what he described as discussions surrounding the possible return of political cadreism. He said he believed Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu understood the negative impact cadreism had on governance and public confidence.
“It is my considered view that Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu fully appreciate the lessons of the past. They understand that cadreism undermined public confidence and contributed significantly to the Patriotic Front’s electoral defeat,” he said.
Mr. Kabunda added that the two leaders appreciated the importance of promoting professionalism, upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of all citizens.
He appealed to Zambians to support Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu, saying they had the resolve to restore economic prosperity, create employment, strengthen agriculture and deliver inclusive development.
“Zambia deserves leadership that listens, delivers and places the interests of its people above all else,” Mr. Kabunda said.
