JACINTA NGOBESE-ZUMA ENCOURAGES ZIMBABWEANS TO JOIN 31 JULY PROTESTS, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST PRESIDENT EMMERSON MNANGAGWA
March and March movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has sparked widespread debate after publicly expressing support for Zimbabweans participating in the planned 31 July nationwide protests.
In a social media post, she wrote, “31st JULY… Over to you Zimbabweans!!”, urging citizens to stand up and make their voices heard. She has also publicly stated that members of the March & March movement would support the demonstrations, saying they were prepared to stand in solidarity with Zimbabweans exercising their constitutional right to protest peacefully.
Ngobese-Zuma has been openly critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, accusing it of failing to address the country’s economic and governance challenges. She has also called for the release of detained activist Bhekimpilo Mbedzi, describing his arrest as an attack on democratic rights.
Her statements have generated mixed reactions across Southern Africa. Supporters have praised her for showing solidarity with Zimbabweans calling for political and economic reforms, while critics argue that South African public figures should avoid becoming involved in the internal political affairs of neighbouring countries.
