JACINTA NGOBESE-ZUMA APOLOGISES FOR INSULTING LIMPOPO PEOPLE, MOCKING THEIR COMPLEXION AND MAKING DEROGATORY REMARKS ABOUT VENDA AND TSONGA LANGUAGES
March and March movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has publicly apologised to the people of Limpopo after old social media posts resurfaced in which she insulted people from the province, mocked their complexion, and made derogatory remarks about the Venda and Tsonga languages
Speaking during a public gathering in Limpopo, Ngobese-Zuma acknowledged that her past comments were offensive and unacceptable. She apologised to the people of Limpopo and said no one should ever be made to feel like they do not belong because of their tribe or language.
She explained that the remarks were made many years ago when she was younger and said they do not reflect the person she is today. She accepted responsibility for her words and asked those who were hurt by her comments to forgive her.
Her apology comes after the old posts resurfaced on social media, prompting criticism from many South Africans. While some people have welcomed her apology and believe people can learn from their mistakes, others say rebuilding trust will take time and that public figures should be held accountable for past statements.
