Jacinta Zuma Blasts Zimbabweans After Protest Calls Fail To Bring Harare To A Standstil
March and March leader Jacinta Zuma has expressed disappointment over the limited turnout during Zimbabwe’s planned July 31 protests, saying her organisation showed up in support of jailed activist Bhekimpilo Mbedzi and the people of Zimbabwe, but Zimbabweans themselves did not come out in large numbers.
Zuma said the lack of widespread participation raised questions about whether Zimbabweans were satisfied with their government. Her comments have added another layer to an already heated political debate surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa and proposed constitutional changes.
She also used the moment to renew her call for undocumented Zimbabweans living in South Africa to return home, while urging Zimbabwe Exemption Permit holders to go back to Zimbabwe.
Her message was blunt: South Africa is for South Africans.
The protests were expected to create significant disruption, but Harare and other major centres largely continued with normal business. Shops remained open, public transport operated and no major unrest was reported.
