GOVERNMENT BANS IMPORT OF USED VEHICLES OLDER THAN 10 YEARS EFFECTIVE TODAY
NEW policy banning the importation of used vehicles that are more than 10 years old, effective today, August 1, as part of measures aimed at improving road safety and environmental protection.
Under the new regulations, all imported used vehicles must undergo inspection before shipment and meet prescribed safety and environmental standards before they can be allowed into the country.
The policy also prohibits the importation of flood-damaged, burnt, or heavily damaged vehicles. In addition, vehicles originally manufactured with left-hand drive will no longer be permitted for import.
Authorities in Ghana say the new rules are intended to enhance road safety, protect consumers from unsafe vehicles, and improve the overall quality of vehicles entering the country’s used-car market.
