MUNDUBILE PLEADS WITH KAMBWILI TO PUBLICLY WITHDRAW STATEMENT ON FAKE ROAD DEALS

As the August 13, 2026 General Elections draw closer, National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) leader Brian Mundubile is reportedly under increasing pressure over allegations relating to road contracts awarded during his tenure as Northern Province Minister.

Sources familiar with the matter claim that Mr. Mundubile has been appealing to former Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili to publicly retract remarks allegedly made during a telephone conversation with an individual identified as Kashishi.

In the conversation, Mr. Kambwili is heard discussing what he described as questionable road contracts linked to Mr. Mundubile during his time in government.

The allegations relate to charges that Mr. Mundubile benefited from road contracts reportedly valued at approximately K1.5 billion while serving as a Cabinet Minister.

According to sources, the Mundubile-Makebi camp recently coaxed Mr. Kambwili to leave Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba and join the Tonse Alliance. The sources allege this move was intended to prevent further public discussion of the claims relating to the road contracts.

A source described as being close to Mr. Mundubile’s running mate, Makebi Zulu, and who allegedly attended a meeting in Kitwe, claimed that Mr. Mundubile offered Mr. Kambwili millions of Kwacha to publicly withdraw his remarks during campaign rallies

“This issue is giving Mundubile sleepless nights because he believes it could have serious legal consequences. At the meeting, he earnestly pleaded with Mr. Kambwili to withdraw the statement during campaign rallies, but Kambwili appeared unwilling to do so,” the source alleged.

Under Zambian law, concealing, altering or destroying evidence in connection with a criminal investigation may constitute offences such as obstruction of justice or evidence tampering and, upon conviction, attract significant penalties, including fines and imprisonment.
