REPORTS OF BUYING VOTERS’ CARDS AND NRCs IN KANCHIBIYA WORRY CHIEF LUCHEMBE

Chief Luchembe of the Bemba people in Kanchibiya District, Muchinga province, is concerned over reports that some individuals in his chiefdom are allegedly buying voters’ cards and National Registration Cards –NRCs- from his subjects.

The traditional leader says he has received information that unscrupulous people are moving around his chiefdom offering money to residents in exchange for their voters’ cards and NRCs.

Chief Luchembe has warned his subjects not to fall prey to the scheme, saying the documents are personal and should never be sold or surrendered to anyone, further urging his subjects to immediately report anyone found buying voters’ cards or NRCs to the police or traditional leaders.

He says this practice undermines the democratic process by denying registered voters their constitutional right to freely choose leaders of their choice.

  1. We are tired of these reports of people buying voters cards. Please report the culprits to the police or ECZ. Why are you reporting to the Chief? And there are no facts, just reports. Last time it was same reports by TIZ with no facts. Look, let the person who has been approached by the buyer report him or her to the police.
