ASKING FOR DONATIONS FEW DAYS BEFORE GENERAL ELECTIONS IS LACK OF SERIOUSNESS – UPND

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Elections and Campaign Chairperson, Likando Mufalali, says the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP)’s decision to seek public donations to finance its election campaigns demonstrates that the opposition is not prepared to govern the country.

Mr. Mufalali questioned the timing of the fundraising appeal, saying campaign financing is an issue political parties should have planned for long before launching their campaigns.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mufalali said the NRPUP’s actions reflect a lack of preparedness and experience in managing the demands of national politics.

“This only shows how far ahead the UPND is in this election race and the UPND has no real competition because a serious political party should have adequately prepared its campaign resources well in advance,” said Mr. Mufalali.

He argued that the opposition’s fundraising appeal is evidence that it is not ready to challenge the ruling party or govern the country effectively.

Mr. Mufalali further claimed that the opposition still has a long way to go before it can match the UPND’s level of organization and preparedness, adding that the ruling party remains confident of victory in the upcoming general elections.
