Report: Iran Rejects Latest U.S. Proposal, Maintains Hormuz Restrictions Until War Ends
Iran has reportedly rejected the latest proposal presented by the United States, insisting that the Strait of Hormuz will not be fully reopened until the ongoing conflict comes to an end, according to a report published Tuesday by Al Mayadeen, a Lebanese media outlet known for its close alignment with Iran and the “Axis of Resistance.”
According to the report, Tehran remains firm on its position despite ongoing diplomatic contacts, arguing that full maritime access through the strategic waterway will only be restored once hostilities cease.
Al Mayadeen also claimed that the United States has shown flexibility on one of the key issues under discussion by proposing concessions related to the closure of the southern shipping corridor. The report says the proposal would involve lifting the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports and reopening the southern section of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping as part of a broader understanding.
The reported developments come shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly declared that no ships would be allowed to reach Iran without U.S. approval, asserting that American naval forces effectively control access to the Strait of Hormuz until either an agreement is reached or Iran accepts what he described as “total surrender.”
Trump also accused Iran’s leadership of pursuing a “double game,” claiming that Tehran is privately engaged in negotiations with Washington while publicly denying that any direct talks are taking place.
His remarks followed statements by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, who reiterated that no direct negotiations are currently underway between Iran and the United States, maintaining that diplomatic contacts are limited to indirect channels through mediators such as Oman.
The contrasting statements from Washington and Tehran underscore the continuing uncertainty surrounding reported diplomatic efforts and the future of maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route.
