“It Was A Hell Of A Game” – Alozie Reacts After Zambia Win
Super Falcons’ defender Michelle Alozie has described Nigeria’s hard-fought victory over Zambia as a tough contest, saying the team applied the lessons from their previous defeat to Malawi to secure the crucial result.
According to a report by The Punch, Alozie, who was named Player of the Match, delivered an outstanding performance as Nigeria claimed a 1-0 win despite playing with 10 players for much of the encounter.
The defending champions took an early lead through Asisat Oshoala’s eighth-minute goal, but their task became more difficult after defender Tosin Demehin was sent off with a straight red card in the 40th minute.
The Falcons, however, held firm to earn all three points against a Zambia side seeking a second consecutive victory.
Speaking after receiving her Player of the Match award, Alozie praised her teammates for their resilience and determination
“We knew Zambia is a really tough team. They are superfast, physical, and very technical. We learned the lesson after playing against Malawi, so we knew we needed to drop the line,” she said.
Reflecting on the challenging encounter, the defender said:
“It was a hell of a game. Tosin played her heart out. It was unfortunate that she was shown a red card, but I’m glad we were able to come together with a player down and get the win.”
The victory leaves Nigeria with three points from two Group C matches, keeping alive their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
The Super Falcons must now beat Egypt convincingly in their final group match on Wednesday and hope the outcome of the simultaneous fixture between Malawi and Zambia works in their favour.
Nigeria remain in pursuit of a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, while also aiming to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
