THREE CHURCH MOTHER BODIES HOST NATIONAL PEACE PLEDGE SIGNING FOR PEACEFUL 2026 ELECTIONS
The three Church Mother Bodies—the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB)—hosted political parties and key stakeholders for the signing of the National Peace Pledge ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
Speaking on behalf of the three Church Mother Bodies during the Peace Pledge Signing Ceremony held in Lusaka last Friday, CCZ President and Reformed Church in Zambia Synod Moderator, Rev. Ackson Banda, described the signing as more than a ceremonial declaration, saying it is a covenant before God and the people of Zambia.
“This Peace Pledge represents a significant step towards safeguarding peace before, during and after the 2026 General Elections. It is a solemn commitment to uphold the values of peace, unity, respect and democratic participation for the good of our nation,” Rev. Banda said.
Meanwhile, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson, Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis, welcomed the signing of the Peace Pledge and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent elections.
Mrs. Zaloumis appealed to all political parties, candidates and their supporters to familiarise themselves with the Electoral Code of Conduct and to fully comply with the country’s electoral laws throughout the campaign period.
And Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) Board Chairperson, Ambassador Joyce Musenge, challenged political leaders and citizens alike to safeguard Zambia’s peace for the benefit of future generations.
Ambassador Musenge said every Zambian has a shared responsibility to reject violence, embrace dialogue, and ensure that future generations inherit a peaceful, united and democratic nation.
The National Peace Pledge forms part of ongoing efforts by the three Church Mother Bodies, working alongside electoral stakeholders, to promote peaceful, credible and violence-free elections through dialogue, mutual respect, responsible political participation and national unity.
