AFRIFORUM GIVES STRONG WARNING TO JULIUS MALEMA AND THE EFF, VOWS TO FIGHT LAND EXPROPRIATION IN COURT AS HIGH-STAKES LEGAL BATTLE OVER SOUTH AFRICA’S PROPERTY RIGHTS INTENSIFIES
AfriForum has warned that it will continue challenging South Africa’s Expropriation Act through the courts, saying it is determined to oppose any move that it believes could allow property to be taken without compensation.
The organisation announced that its legal application against the Act is due to be heard in the High Court in Cape Town. AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel also referred to statements by EFF leader Julius Malema on land expropriation, arguing that the party’s position reinforces the need for the legal challenge.
According to AfriForum, the court case is intended to protect property rights and ensure that any expropriation complies with constitutional principles. The organisation says it will continue using legal avenues to oppose the legislation.
Supporters of the Expropriation Act, however, argue that the law is designed to advance land reform within the framework of the Constitution and does not automatically permit property to be taken without compensation in every case.
The case is expected to add to the ongoing national debate over land reform, property rights and South Africa’s constitutional future.
