Benin New Senate Elects Its First President – Former President Patrice Talon was chosen today to lead the country’s upper chamber. The 25-member Senate was created by the constitutional revision adopted in November 2025 that turned Benin into a bicameral parliament.
Today the senators elected their first leadership:
– President: Patrice Talon
– Vice-President: Louis Vlavonou
– Rapporteur: Alassane Seidou
– Deputy Rapporteur: Adidjatou Mathys
Talon, who left the presidency in May 2026 after two terms, now heads the new institution designed to regulate political life and strengthen national unity.
The Senate was formally installed on 30 July. Less than a week later, it has its first president.
