BREAKING: Federal Judge Tells Trump He’s a Tenant, Not a King
Judge Bradley N. Garcia just told Trump exactly what every president needs to hear: the White House belongs to the American people, not him.
Garcia, joined by Judge Patricia Millett, ruled in a 2-1 decision that Trump’s $400 million ballroom construction must stop immediately, finding that he blew past his authority when he tore down the East Wing and started building without asking Congress for permission.
Writing for the majority, Garcia and Millett didn’t hold back. “Each President is a temporary tenant, not the owner, of the White House and its Executive Residence,” they wrote, dismantling Trump’s claim that he can do whatever he wants to the building on his own authority
Garcia made clear that no president gets to bulldoze historic landmarks and sidestep the people’s representatives just because the bulldozers are already running. The ruling forces construction to stop until Congress actually authorizes the project, something Republican leaders have talked about for months but never bothered to do.
Trump is furious. He’s already vowed to take the fight to the Supreme Court, calling the decision a “national security threat” and a “national disgrace.” But Garcia’s opinion, laid out across nearly 100 pages, spells out exactly why that argument doesn’t hold up, flatly rejecting the administration’s claim that courts have no power to stop him.
