US Intelligence Warns Putin Could Target NATO
US intelligence officials are reportedly warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin could order an attack against a NATO member state within the next few years, raising fresh concerns about the alliance’s eastern flank.
According to the assessment, any potential Russian action would not necessarily begin with a full-scale invasion. It could range from major cyberattacks and sabotage operations to a limited military incursion designed to test NATO’s response.
The Baltic states and Poland are reportedly viewed as among the areas most vulnerable to such a scenario because of their strategic location along NATO’s eastern frontier.
The warning comes amid growing tensions between Russia and the West, with NATO continuing to strengthen its defenses and increase military deployments across Eastern Europe.
A direct attack on a NATO member would carry enormous consequences because Article 5 of the alliance treats an armed attack against one member as an attack against all.
