With Zambians voting on Thursday, DPP President Antonio Mourinho Mwanza says the election could hinge less on who has the most registered supporters and more on who actually gets them to the polls.
His breakdown: Southern, Western and North-Western provinces hold 2,256,822 voters combined. Lusaka and Copperbelt form the biggest bloc at 2,727,335. He calls Eastern Province (1,129,444 voters) “more of a swing province” and Central Province (820,079) “a battleground.”
“The key is to significantly push voter turnout and win by large margins in your strongholds,” Mwanza wrote.
Zambia has 8,786,300 registered voters, 13,529 polling stations (up from 12,152 in 2021, though ECZ says this reflects more voting rooms, not new locations), and nearly 90,000 electoral personnel deploying nationwide.
An estimated 59.5% of voters are rural, underlining the scale of the mobilisation challenge both for parties and the ECZ.
