Iran Signals Talks With Oman Could End ‘Neither War Nor Peace’ Standoff
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran hopes diplomatic talks mediated through Oman can help end the prolonged “neither war nor peace” situation with the United States, saying the conflict cannot continue indefinitely.
Iran and Oman have been negotiating arrangements for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, with the talks reportedly approaching an agreement on a temporary shipping framework.
However, Tehran has stressed that an Iran-Oman agreement alone will not fully reopen the strategic waterway. Iran is demanding that the United States lift sanctions, end military pressure and provide compensation for war-related damages before allowing unrestricted navigation.
The latest position highlights the gap between the technical agreement being negotiated with Oman and the broader political conditions Iran has placed on the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
