ARCHBISHOP PHIRI WARNS CHRISTIANS AGAINST POLITICAL VIOLENCE AND DIVISION.
Ndola Archbishop Benjamin Phiri has warned Christians against becoming vessels of disunity instead of being peacemakers as the country heads to the polls next week.
Speaking in his homily in Mpongwe during the elevation of St Mary Sub-Parish to St Monica Parish, Archbishop Phiri called on the faithful to undertake self-introspection and examine whether the lives they are living reflect those of people who call themselves children of God.
He reminded Christians of the need to promote peace, saying it would be disappointing to hear that a Christian had verbally or physically harassed a fellow Christian simply because they belonged to different political parties
Archbishop Phiri said any Catholic found in the Archdiocese engaging in violence would be dealt with accordingly.
He also warned that any priest found propagating division among the faithful on the basis of political affiliation would face appropriate action.
The Archbishop said Christians must conduct themselves differently from those who do not profess to be children of God, especially during the election period.
During the Mass, Archbishop Phiri also conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 45 candidates and charged them to be good ambassadors of Christ.
