Hegseth holds monthly prayer meetings at the Pentagon and cites verses from the New and Old Testament to legitimise the war in Iran. He has been documented praying for “overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy.”
The Tattoos That Tell a Bigger Story
Hegseth’s own body has become evidence of what critics call a disturbing fusion of faith and warfare:
“KAFIR” (Arabic for “infidel”) the Arabic word for non-believer. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called it “a sign of both anti-Muslim hostility and personal insecurity”.
“DEUS VULT” (Latin for “God wills it”) a Crusader battle cry used when medieval armies committed acts of genocide against Muslims and Jews.
JERUSALEM CROSS a symbol scholars say has been co-opted by far-right groups as a symbol of the fight for Western civilisation.
“AMERICAN CRUSADE” he published a book with that title, embracing the idea of holy war.
The Bigger Picture
The rift represents a generational divide within the conservative movement. Carlson and other America First voices…including Candace Owens and Nick Fuentes…are increasingly at odds with the Christian nationalist establishment that continues to support both Israel and the Iran war.
Observers point to Hegseth’s “obsession with testosterone, masculinity, and the ‘warrior’ ideal,” turning the military into a vehicle for far-right ideology.
