Binwell declares war, says he’s ready to kill

OPPOSITION Tonse Alliance chairperson for presidential affairs Binwell Mpundu has shocked the nation with a chilling declaration that him and his political comrades are ready to kill over Thursday’s general election.

Mpundu made the remarks while reacting to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)’s clarification that voters can use a tick, X or any other single mark to indicate their preferred candidate on the ballot paper.

“Our lives are at stake. I’m ready to die. And I’m ready to kill,” Mpundu declared.

“For this election, people like me, I am ready to be killed. I’m also ready to kill. Because I know very well that when everything goes wrong, if anything goes wrong with these elections, some of us will not have our lives,” he claimed.

Mpundu was particularly unhappy with ECZ’s position that a tick is also a valid way of marking a ballot paper.

He argued that the traditional method of voting has always been through an X and questioned why stakeholders were not consulted before the change was communicated.

“Voting will proceed as it has been over all these years. There’s just going to be a cross sign. We will not be ticking this time around,” he said.

Mpundu further argued that if ECZ wanted ticking to form part of the voting procedure, the change should have been included in amendments to the Electoral Process Act.

“Would you be surprised if people insinuated that there are pre-marked ballots that have been ticked? That is why you now want to bring in an alien practice,” Mpundu said.

He maintained that ticking was an “alien practice” in Zambia’s elections and called on voters to reject it.

However, on Friday during a stakeholder engagement, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro clarified that the X is not the only acceptable mark on a ballot paper.

Kasaro said a tick, X or dash is valid as long as it is contained within the space allocated to the candidate being voted for.

He further warned voters against making more than one mark on a ballot paper, saying such a ballot could be rejected.

Kasaro also urged voters not to sign, write their names or put their initials on ballot papers.

  1. Try to vote for these guys you see how you can be back to abuse and disrespect. These are the signs that they have not stopped. You hear pronouncement of killing. Now killing who?

  2. Zambia is bigger than a bunch of broke arse niggaz.
Why should anyone die simply because this idiot wants to continue eating free money???
    Get a life.
    Get a job.
We are voting peacefully on Thursday 13th August. And sending failed politicians permanently into the political wilderness.
The bar has been raised. Didn’t you get the memo?

  3. This chap thinks he is the ruling party. He is just a small ant that cant influence anything. Let him kill himself if he wishes, and leave the rest of the country to freely go to vote. Security wings dont even need to be agitated, Mpundu’s rant is just expression of hopellessness after realizing his PRPUP is losing these elections badly. Let x, a tick and a dash be acceptable to reduce spoiled ballots. We are not PF. We are UPND. Bcos UPND is the ruling party under which these elections are taking place he thinks UPND can do what PF of his used to do. That is his own fear of his Shadows. Why shud we all be taken for that as if we also have PF shadows to fear. We are clean. Upnd has no Monkey tricks which these monkeys used to use in their time. Voting shall be peacefull. It will remain peacefull b4, during and after the elections. Mpundu has enough brains to know that trying to create trouble b4, during and after the elections will take him to jail, and he cant even do it. If he was serious, he would hide and keep such serious intentions to himself. What he is trying to do is to try make ECZ remove the Tick , making using it make a spoiled ballot and he knows that wud work againt UPND. That is a desperate attempt to win by pushing for UPND vote reduction thru spoiled ballots. Should we accept that no.
