UNITED STATES: Woman Who Killed Husband in 2000 Pleads Guilty to Stabbing Fire Captain Wife to Death

A 54-year-old woman with a prior homicide conviction has pleaded guilty to the murder of her wife, a longtime Cal Fire captain.

Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi pleaded guilty this week to second-degree murder for the February 17, 2025, stabbing death of Cal Fire Capt. Rebecca “Becky” Marodi, 49.

Authorities said Rebecca was found with multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest, and back at their home in Ramona, California. Yolanda fled to Mexico after the attack and was arrested more than a month later in Mexicali

Court records show this is not her first spouse homicide. In 2000, she fatally stabbed her then-husband, James Joseph Olejniczak. She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in 2003 and was released from prison in 2013.

Rebecca Marodi served 30 years with Cal Fire.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 2. Yolanda faces up to 36 years to life in prison.
