CHINA HITS BACK: Fresh Sanctions Target U.S. Entities & Drone Exports
Beijing has announced a fresh round of countermeasures against the U.S. in response to recent restrictions on Chinese companies over fabricated “forced labor” claims.
Key Measures Announced (Effective August 5)
· Six U.S. Entities Sanctioned: The following entities were placed on China’s countermeasure list, prohibiting Chinese organizations and individuals from any transactions or cooperation with them:
· Applied DNA Sciences, Inc.
· Stratum Reservoir, LLC.
· Altana Technologies, Inc.
· Responsible Business Alliance
· Verite Group, Inc.
· Human Rights in China
· Tighter Drone Export Controls: Exports of drones, key components, and related technologies to the U.S. will face strict case-by-case reviews and will no longer be eligible for license facilitation measures.
· Other Measures: Beijing also launched a national security review into imported office equipment (printers/copiers) and suspended some cooperative inspection activities with the U.S.
Why Now ?
China’s Ministry of Commerce stated these actions were a necessary response to Washington’s continued hostile expansion of restrictions on Chinese entities under the pretext of national security, including the recent addition of over 40 Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List.
China warned that additional countermeasures will follow if the U.S. introduces new restrictions.
This represents a significant escalation in trade tensions, introducing new uncertainty for global tech supply chains, particularly in the drone industry.
