POLICE OFFICERS ASK FOR K1000 ‘YAKA DRINK’
… after suddenly becoming ‘friendly’ with CF officials when Zaloumis intervened to stop them from disrupting rally
Some police officers In Ndola who had worked most of the day on Thursday to disrupt the holding of the CF rally in Ndola, suddenly did a U-turn and took up a ‘friendly’ posture after Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis intervened to stop them from stopping the rally.
Three plain-clothed officers last Thursday were sent to the scene where the CF were planning to hold the rally in Chipulukusu and ordered to stop the event from proceeding.
But when CF officials refused the orders and proceeded to prepare the place for the holding of the rally, the officer in-charge at Ndola Central police Miyanda Siyanga personally went to reinforce his juniors in order to ensure that the orders were followed.
When their leader Harry Kalaba was informed about the happenings, he decided to call Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis to intervene into the matter.
Zaloumis managed to pacify the matter after she made phone calls to the police command in the Copperbelt, with the officers who were working hard to stop the rally immediately immediately stopping when they received phone calls from their superiors.
