MUNDUBILE DEMANDS ANSWERS OVER ARRESTS OF NRPUP MEMBERS, MEDIA PERSONNEL AND ELECTION TEAMS.
The NRPUP Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile has raised concern over what he describes as a pattern of arrests and detentions involving his campaign members, media personnel, musicians, bloggers and security teams, ahead of the August 13 general election.
Mr. Mundubile says cases brought to the party’s attention include those involving musicians Chester and Felix, comedian Winston, popularly known as IDC, bloggers Rooney Kapya and Matthews Zubi, as well as Hannah Katontoka and ambassador Martha Lungu
Mr. Mundubile also claims that 34 members of its security team remain in police custody in Mongu.
He has demanded that police provide a comprehensive explanation for the arrests and detentions, insisting that anyone suspected of an offence should be formally charged, given access to legal counsel and family members, and brought before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Mr. Mundubile has also alleged that the arrests are part of an effort to disrupt the NRPUP election monitoring and voter protection structures.
He has named several individuals he claims are being targeted because of their involvement in election management, including George Chisanga, Kasonde Mwenda, Enock Roosevelt Tonga, Council Jonas Zimba, Japhen Mwakalombe, Sebastian Kopulande, Davis Chisopa, Mutotwe Kafwaya and Counsel Kambwa Aongola.
Mr. Mundubile has particularly called for clarification on the whereabouts of Dr. Sebastian Kopulande, demanding that police inform his family and lawyers if he is in custody and disclose the allegations against him.
