NRPUP: DEC SEIZES K7.3 MILLION CAMPAIGN FUNDS
The National Republican Progressive Union Party (NRPUP) says the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has seized K7,398,500 that was contributed by well-wishers to support the party’s activities ahead of Thursday’s general election.
NRPUP Chairman says approximately K5.5 million of the money was specifically intended to facilitate electoral procedures, including payments for polling agents and election monitors across the country.
He says the remaining funds were earmarked for campaign activities and rallies in Mazabuka, Choma and Livingstone
The chairman says the seizure has left the party without the financial resources needed to proceed with its planned electoral operations, particularly the deployment and facilitation of polling agents and monitors.
The party is now calling for the matter to be addressed, arguing that the funds were contributions from well-wishers intended to support its participation in the electoral process.
NRPUP says the loss of the funds could significantly affect its preparations for Thursday’s election.
