North Korea Partnership Deepens as Missile and Troop Support Reports Emerge

Reports indicate that military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is continuing to expand, with Moscow allegedly receiving another shipment of North Korean ballistic missiles and Pyongyang potentially preparing to deploy additional troops to support Russian forces.

The reported missile deliveries would represent another sign of the increasingly close military relationship between the two countries. North Korea has previously been accused by Ukraine and Western governments of supplying Russia with artillery ammunition and ballistic missiles for use in the war in Ukraine. Moscow and Pyongyang have strengthened their defense ties significantly since signing a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in 2024.

The reports also suggest that additional North Korean personnel could be sent to Russia. North Korean troops have already reportedly participated in support operations alongside Russian forces, particularly in Russia’s Kursk region, where Moscow has been fighting Ukrainian forces. Any further deployment would underline the growing level of direct military cooperation between the two governments.

For Russia, North Korean assistance could provide additional access to ammunition, missiles and manpower as the war continues. For Pyongyang, closer military cooperation with Moscow offers economic, technological and strategic benefits, while strengthening North Korea’s position against the United States and its allies in the region.

The expanding partnership is increasingly viewed by Western governments and South Korea as a major security concern. The United States, South Korea and European countries have repeatedly warned that the transfer of ballistic missiles and military technology between Moscow and Pyongyang could further intensify the war in Ukraine and contribute to wider military tensions.

If additional missile deliveries and troop deployments are confirmed, they would send a clear strategic message: Russia and North Korea are deepening their military alignment, creating a partnership that could have consequences far beyond the battlefield in Ukraine.
