US to Withdraw Final Troops From Iraq by September 30, 2026

After more than two decades of military presence, the United States is planning to withdraw its remaining troops from Iraq by September 30, 2026, bringing an end to the U.S. military presence that began with the 2003 invasion.

Iraq’s prime minister said the withdrawal deadline is fixed and final, with October 1 marking a new phase in which Iraq will have no foreign military presence.

The withdrawal is part of a 2024 agreement between Washington and Baghdad to end the international coalition’s mission against ISIS. Under the arrangement, Iraqi security forces are expected to take greater responsibility for the country’s security and stability.
