GOVERNMENT URGES CALM AS VOTE COUNTING CONTINUES
The government has commended citizens for a peaceful polling day on Thursday.
It urged the public to maintain calm and order as the Electoral Commission of Zambia proceeds with vote counting and tabulation nationwide.
In a statement issued to Byta Fm News, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana called on all political stakeholders and citizens to exercise maximum restraint.
He also urged them to avoid actions or statements that could compromise national peace and security during the tallying process.
Kawana reminded the nation that the Electoral Commission of Zambia is the sole constitutional authority empowered to declare election results.
He urged members of the public to rely exclusively on official announcements.
They should refrain from circulating unverified social media updates or making premature claims of victory.
Warning against any post-election disorder, the Permanent Secretary emphasised that incitement, intimidation, property damage, and false reports will draw immediate legal action. Cc
Security agencies, including the Zambia Police Service, have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and enforce the law impartially across all provinces.
Kawana appealed to civic, religious, and political leaders to advocate for unity and maturity.
He reinforced the government’s confidence in a transparent outcome that reflects Zambia’s commitment to constitutional democracy.
