Israel Warns of Inevitable War With Syria as Minister Names Ahmed al-Sharaa as Next Enemy

Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli has warned that Israel will go to war with Syria, describing a future confrontation as a “complete certainty” and something that cannot be avoided.

Chikli also identified Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, as the “next enemy” Israel is expected to face.

The remarks represent a stark warning from a senior Israeli government figure and come amid growing tensions surrounding Syria’s political transition, Israel’s security concerns along its northern frontier, and the future balance of power in the region.

Chikli’s comments suggest that Israeli officials increasingly view the new Syrian leadership as a potential strategic threat rather than simply a neighboring government.

If tensions continue to escalate, a direct Israeli-Syrian confrontation could become one of the region’s most consequential flashpoints, with potential implications for the wider Middle East.

Israel’s message is clear: according to Chikli, a future war with Syria is not a question of “if,” but “when.”
