GEORGE MWANZA WINS CHIPATA WITH 154 VOTES.
Former Chipata City Mayor George Mwanza has been declared the winner of the Chipata Central Parliamentary seat after narrowly defeating his closest rival, Ruth Phiri of the NRPUP.
According to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) declaration of results, Mwanza, who stood on the UPND ticket, polled 10,946 votes, while Phiri secured 10,792 votes.
Mwanza won by a margin of 154 votes in a closely contested parliamentary race.
The ECZ document states that a total of 22,103 votes were cast, with 365 ballot papers rejected as invalid.
Returning Officer Simpfukwe Reuben Wigan subsequently declared George Mwanza duly elected as Member of Parliament for Chipata Central Constituency.
