NRPUP Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile was among several people found at a premises in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area during a joint security operation that authorities say uncovered suspected militia members, high-grade military weapons, ammunition and other materials.
Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said the operation was conducted on August 13 following surveillance of persons of interest. He said some occupants allegedly opened fire at law enforcement officers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
Several political figures were reportedly found at the premises, with authorities saying some suspects have been detained and charged while investigations continue.
The operation comes amid heightened post-election security concerns, with authorities investigating several incidents across the country.
Mr Kangwa said investigations are ongoing and the nation will be kept informed of developments.
