Trump: South Korea Declined to Join U.S. Efforts to Denuclearize Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump said he recently asked South Korean President Lee Jae-myung whether South Korea wanted to join the United States in efforts aimed at the denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Trump, the South Korean president replied: “No, thank you!”
Trump added that the matter was “somewhat unrelated” to his decision to scale back the scope of planned U.S.-South Korean military exercises.
The U.S. president has argued that the exercises send a “totally inappropriate and hostile signal” to North Korea , despite the longstanding military alliance between Washington and Seoul.
