RUSSIA REPORTEDLY “BRANDS” FOREIGN RECRUITS WITH INVENTORY NUMBERS
Ukraine’s military intelligence says Russia is assigning foreign mercenaries serial numbers instead of issuing them conventional military identification.
According to the GUR, the numbers are marked on equipment or directly onto the recruits’ skin using durable paint that can remain visible for weeks. Russian security personnel reportedly inspect foreigners for these markings while searching for deserters.
The system effectively reduces recruits to inventory. The GUR says it may also help Russia conceal their identities and battlefield losses while avoiding compensation payments to families abroad.
Foreigners recruited to fight Russia’s war are promised money and opportunity. Once inside the system, they are reportedly treated less like soldiers than numbered, expendable property.
