MUNAILE – A LOSING CANDIDATE WHO BECAME AN MP
So this Story dates back to September, 2006 General Elections. Mr Munaile contested the Malole Seat as an independent Candidate against the MMD and the PF.
Munaile polled 6,616 votes behind PF’s Matilda Mutale who had 7,214. The returning officer Mistakenly declared Munaile winner and duly elected MP for Malole Constituency.
PFs Matilda Mutale went to court where the ECZ admitted the mistake but Mr Munaile argued that the Petition was not signed by the petitioner herself which was against the electoral petition rules.
The High court agreed with Mr Munaile and dismissed the case. Matilda Mutale appealed the ruling to the supreme court but the supreme court agreed with the high court that an election petition must be personally signed by the petitioner and not her lawyers.
That’s how Mr Munaile by “THE GRACE OF GOD” became MP and thanked the people of Malole for entrusting him with the role.
