IRAN DENIES DRONE ATTACK ON KURDISH PM AND BLAMES FALSE FLAG
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has denied Tehran was behind Monday’s drone attack on Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s office. He called it reckless and warned Kurdish friends to be vigilant against false-flag ploys to sow discord between neighbours.
The attack happened around 12:28 am. Two Hadid-110 explosive drones were launched from the Iranian side of the border. The target was Barzani’s private office and the residence of the region’s intelligence chief in Pirmam. No casualties were reported.
Barzani condemned the attack as a dangerous escalation. Iraq’s Foreign Minister demanded an official clarification from Tehran.
Araghchi said he had no information that the strikes were launched from Iranian territory. He reaffirmed Iran’s rejection of anything that fuels escalation.
Iran protected Kurdish friends against Saddam and DAESH. The KRG has provided security on the border. That relationship is now under strain.
Iraq is being hit from all sides. Iran, the US, Saudi Arabia and pro-Tehran militias are all active on its soil. The Kurds are caught in the middle.
If Iran did not launch the attack, who did. And if false flags are being used to provoke conflict, who benefits from turning Iran against its Kurdish allies.
